NEWS FROM
MATHON PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

6th
JULY 2008

Herefordshire
Councillor(s)

Dist Cllr Rees Mills reported
that it was essential for Herefordshire Council to promote Herefordshire
for business enterprise and to provide extra homes and facilities.
There was potential university status for Hereford College and, together
with the expansion of the City Centre, this would enhance the local
economy.  A new Chief Executive, Chris Bull, had been appointed.

Malvern Conservators

Mr R Thomas reported that the
Conservators had held their AGM.  They had done extremely well
at the Three Counties Show with record attendances to their stand.
A visit from Cleeve Common Conservators was scheduled for 20th
July.  Under a stewardship scheme, the Conservators are trying
to encourage local commoners to graze their livestock on the hills.

Cradley Youth Group

Mr N Walker reported on the
encouraging attendance at the weekly youth Group – an average of 15
juniors and 10 seniors.  A weekly programme had been introduced
and the Committee now had three new members.  Funding required
for the Youth Group was approximately £5K per annum.

Telephone Box Removal

The Clerk drew the attention
of the Council to the proposed removal by BT of telephone boxes in Herefordshire.
Although the telephone box at the Cliffe Arms was not on the removal
list, she had contacted the Parish Liaison Officer to make sure of this
point.  At his suggestion, she had written to his department –
pointing out the need for this facility in Mathon and the reasons why
we should retain this phone box.

Herefordshire Council
– Highways

The Clerk had reported several
deep potholes along the road B4220 and had followed this up with a phone
call.   She had been assured that this matter would be dealt
with by the 18th July.  Highways have started a new
initiative to provide a consistent service for parish  Councils
for dealing with minor defects (as reported previously).  Please
contact any of the Parish Councillors or the Clerk if you are aware
of any minor problems locally.

Next Meeting Date

Wednesday 17th September
at 7.30 pm in Mathon Parish Hall.
