NHW Update 21st March to 28th March
Hello Folks,
Here is the latest NHW Update. This one will be
my last issue for a while as I am on Annual Leave until the end of April.
A bit long you may think, but it is because my mum is visiting from New Zealand
and will be having my undivided attention. In my absence Chrissie
Stallard-Daniels our Front Counter Clerk will be compiling the Updates with
input from the Local Policing Teams, and will do a fine job I'm sure.
First apologies for an omission on the last
Update.
13th March
- A property in Bishops Frome was the
victim of another break-in when thieves broke into a locked store situated in
a field, and removed mowers and strimmers. The offenders gained access
by sawing off a padlock and then used a wheelbarrow to move some of the items.
Enquiries are ongoing.
21st March
- Cash stolen in Ledbury
robberyPolice are appealing for information
following a robbery at the Wine Rack store in Ledbury High Street on Friday
evening . A small amount of cash was taken after a man entered the store
and demanded money shortly before 9.30pm. He was carrying a plastic bag
which is thought to have contained a hammer, although no direct threats were
made and no-one from the store suffered any injury. The man left the
store and disappeared into the town centre immediately afterwards, with the
whole incident lasting less than a minute.Incidents of this kind are unusual in
Herefordshire and police are treating it extremely seriously, but we believe
the offender may be local so we are keen to speak to anyone who believes they
may recognise the man from his description. He is described as white and aged
in his 20s, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall and of slim to medium
build. His clothing was quite distinctive, as he was wearing a ‘parka’
style jacket with a furry lining around the hood. Underneath he wore a
hoodie in a light-coloured camouflage style - the hood was worn up - and dark
coloured tracksuit trousers.Police are continuing to study CCTV
footage from the area at the time of the incident and conducting enquiries in
the Ledbury area. Anyone with information should contact DC Sue Prosser
at Hereford CID on 08457 444888. “Information can also be reported
anonymously to Crimestoppers by anyone who would prefer not to talk to the
police direct. You won’t be identified from the call and you may qualify
for a reward if your information leads to an arrest and
charge
22nd March
- A large flower pot with flowers in it was stolen
overnight from a property in Huntingdon, Cradley. Residents believe someone may have heard activity as it was too
big to have been carried off without difficulty. - Residents at Pound Bridge in Brook Lane, Cradley had one of their gates stolen overnight. Thieves
removed the gate by lifting it off the hinges and carrying it off.
The resident believed they heard something at about midnight, but as it was a
stormy night, thought it was the wind. The gate is described as black
painted, wrought iron 6ft x 4ft high. Have you seen anything that
might help trace the thieves. Please
be aware that the theft of metals/wrought iron/cabling continues to be a major
problem at the moment with the price of scrap being very high. It is
highly likely that the residents have been the victims of scrap metal thieves.
The Police are very interested to gain information relating to this type of
crime under Operation Livewire.Follow
up - following a search
by local residents, I am pleased to report that the missing gate was later
located by the intrepid Steve Dawe, the gate having been dumped in a stream
within the vicinity of the theft. Steve spotted the gate in the murky
depths of the stream and waded in up to his waist to retrieve it. Well
done Steve for service above and beyond the call of duty!!. Needless to
say what now looks like a prank, caused unnecessary distress to the residents,
and we would be very interested to hear from anyone who might know who the
culprits are. Someone needs a bit of advice!! This also does
not negate the warning regarding theft of metal - keep your eyes peeled for
any suspicious activity.
23rd March

window damaged, by persons unknown. Nothing was seen or heard.

- A property in Barnetts Ave, Ledbury was
burgled by persons unknown. Thieves entered the property by using a key
which had been left under a flower pot outside the front door, and once inside
removed an XBox 360 and 6 games. Enquiries are ongoing. Please note that
leaving your door key under a flower pot or similar is one of the most
likely place for would-be thieves to look for a key to a property and should
be discouraged at all times.
27th March

Ledbury,

Two suspicious males were seen in the vicinity of The
Schallenge yesterday. When challenged they said they were looking for bamboo
canes. Males are described as in their 30s/40s, well built, and one had a
greyish anorak with hood. Any sightings please let us know.
Once again the ticket machine on the Conquest theatre
car park has been vandalised. This is the second time this week. Please call us
immediately if you see anyone attack this machine. It costs the council
taxpayers a lot of money each time it is vandalised, both in terms of lost
revenue and also in repair costs.

IF YOU SUSPECT IT REPORT IT CAMPAIGN
A national campaign is now underway in support of the National
Counter Terrorist Strategy (CONTEST). We are asking people to help stop
terrorists in their tracks, by trusting their instincts and passing on
information about any unusual activity or behaviour to the Anti Terrorist
Confidential Hotline. The campaign is being conducted in partnership with West
Midlands Police ,Warwickshire Police and Staffordshire Police.
Although the threat is real, the
campaign has not been launched in response to any specific threat.
"If you
suspect it report it" is the key message of
the campaign and will involve use of local newspapers and commercial radio
stations and the display of posters in prominent public places relating to
suspicious use of mobile telephones, cameras and premises.
It is important to remember that you as a
member of the public can make a significant impact in the fight against
terrorism and we urge you to support the campaign by reporting
anything you feel is unusual or suspicious by calling the Police on the
Anti Terrorist confidential hotline on 0800 789
